Costco has reeled in packages of its Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon after tests revealed potential Listeria contamination.

The voluntary recall, announced October 22, 2024, targets specific salmon packages distributed to Costco stores across Florida. The affected products, supplied by Acme Smoked Fish Corp, were sold between October 9 and October 13, 2024, and can be identified by lot number 8512801270.

While no illnesses have been reported, Listeria monocytogenes poses serious health risks, particularly for certain groups. Pregnant women, elderly individuals, and people with compromised immune systems face the highest risk from this bacterial contamination, making swift action crucial.

Costco has partnered with the FDA and Acme Smoked Fish Corp to pinpoint the contamination source and prevent similar issues in the future. Meanwhile, the companies are focused on removing all affected products from circulation.

Customers who purchased the recalled salmon shouldn’t consume it, even if it looks and smells normal. Instead, they can return the product to any Costco location for a complete refund. The retailer emphasizes that safety concerns only apply to products matching the specific lot number identified in the recall.

The discovery came through routine testing procedures at Acme Smoked Fish Corp. This early detection allowed for quick action before any reported cases of illness, showing how preventive measures protect consumer health.
